Meanwhile, Alexander Aan is 31 years old civil servant in West Sumatera, Indonesia. He’s been prisoned since early January by the local police in Dhamasraya district because some muslims threatened his life due to his atheistic notes in Facebook and his activity on Facebook page titled ‘Ateis Minang’; They claimed it was blasphemy and offensive.

He’s charged for three violations which are applied not as in procedures. Clearly he has been doing no damage at all by his free speech, compared with overwhelmingly other religious based anarchy started by muslim majority in that area near Padang city.

Here’s the list of INTOLERANT ISLAMIST may responsible to this unjust case of human’s basic rights violation:

1. Pengadilan Negeri Dharmasraya (District Courthouse), MuarO Sijunjung.

Some random weak witnesses with weak evidence and very low qualification who attacked Alex Aan and then twisted the unjust law:

1. Hendri
2. Mulyadi
3. Doni Saptri
4. Yon Riadi
5. Hendri Martariko

The Facebook Admin however clarified on 20/01/12: “To all reporters, we would like to clarify that Alex Aan was not the one who started this page. He also become one of the page’s administrator just recently, about some months ago. Now we cancel his admin status and remove all of his posts, and he is no longer be responsible of what is going on this page.

We will continue our support to him and we condemn all of the brutality ans his rest by the police.

We urge United Nations’ human right department to look at Indonesia and what happened to our friend Alexander Aan.

Prosecutors have fouled up the indictment of Alexander Aan, the civil servant in Padang, West Sumatra accused of professing his atheism on Facebook, his lawyers say.

Alexander should have been charged under a joint regulation of the Religious Affairs Ministry, the Attorney General’s Office and the Home Ministry, Ronny Saputra, an attorney from the Padang office of the Legal Aid Foundation (LBH), said.

Ronny said sections of the indictment alleging that Alexander had called on others to “embrace atheism” were unclear.

“The prosecutors have yet to describe when or where my client had done such acts,” he said.

Alexander only posted images and text from the “Minang Atheist” Facebook group on his own account, Ronny said, including such as comics titled “The Prophet Muhammad has been attracted to his own daughter-in-law” and “The Prophet Muhammad had been sleeping with his wife’s maid”.

“The article was first circulated in a forum called “Faith Freedom Indonesia 2008” and has been accessible until now. Meanwhile, the same comic was aired by Metro TV on January 20th in 2010,” Ronny said.

Alexander was merely one of the 2,602 members of the “Minang Atheist”, which he said was founded by 70-year-old Jusfiq Hadjar, a resident of Leiden, the Netherlands, according to the attorney.

Alexander Aan is one person, but his case highlights exactly what is wrong with the Muslim world’s treatment of its own citizens. Supporting him will mean more than helping a man who has committed no real crime — it will show a lack of tolerance for religiously-based, unjust laws.

The basis of his prosecution appears to be community outrage and false assertions of inciting hatred. However, the effect of the laws in practice here is the criminalization of atheism. This is in clear conflict with any freedom of religion, which must include the capacity to have no religion.

Alex’s voice here was used merely to express an opinion, which everyone ought to have the right to do in a free society. He did not endanger anyone, nor force anyone to listen to him. If some are offended by his statements, that is their view, but they should not be able to use the force of government to impose it on everyone else.

For the sake of justice, please cease all legal actions against Alexander Aan. Release him and compensate him for his lost time and freedom.

Further, the laws of Indonesia should be changed to provide and promote full freedom of expression, including that of unpopular views where it is most necessary.
